MEDJED

Android App Guide

Everything from the first-time setup with your PC to using the phone on its own, without a PC. On your phone, the app is called "Medjed GPS". iPhone users, see the iPhone guide.

The phone app is in Traditional ChineseThe Medjed GPS phone app currently only shows Traditional Chinese. On this page, phone app buttons are given in English with the on-screen Chinese text next to them, e.g. Send here 傳送到這裡.
Most importantSet Medjed as the mock location appWithout this, your location won't change. Step 5 of the desktop setup wizard does it with one click.
Only onceDeveloper options + USB debuggingSet them up the first time, and after that just plug in your phone.
RecommendedUnrestricted background useSo the system doesn't stop the simulation and the floating joystick after you swipe the app away.

①What you need

Any phone with Android 8 or later works. No root needed.

How you use itWhat you need
With a PC
The PC controls the phone's location
A Windows PC with the Medjed desktop app + a USB cable that supports data (some cables only charge). No sign-in on the phone; it uses the desktop app's trial or subscription.
Phone on its own
No PC
Medjed GPS already installed on the phone, plus one of these: a free 14-day trial (once per phone), or sign in with the Email you subscribed with. Starting a simulation needs an internet connection (your license must have been checked within the last 30 minutes; the app checks automatically while it's open).
The first install needs a PCThe "Android Setup Wizard" in the desktop app installs and sets up the phone app for you (see ②). After that you can use it without a PC, and updates can be done on the phone (see ④).

②First-time setup

You only need to do this once, in order. The desktop setup wizard shows the steps for your phone's brand and ticks each step off automatically.

  1. Turn on "Developer options": tap the build number 7 times Settings › About phone › tap "Build number" 7 times (you may need to enter your screen lock) until you see "You are now a developer". See the table below for where it is on each brand.
  2. Turn on USB debugging In "Developer options", turn on "USB debugging". On Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO, also turn on "Install via USB" on the same page (needs a Mi account); on OPPO, turn on "Install via USB". Otherwise the phone app can't be installed.
  3. Connect to your PC with a USB cable and allow this computer Your phone asks "Allow USB debugging?" → tick "Always allow from this computer" → tap "Allow". Nothing appears? Set the USB mode to "File transfer", or unplug and plug back in.
  4. Desktop Medjed → ⚙ Tools › Android setup → click Install in step 4 In about 10 seconds the PC installs the phone app for you (if your phone asks whether to allow the install, tap Allow). "Medjed GPS" appears on your home screen.
  5. Set Medjed as the mock location app: click Set up in step 5 The PC sets it for you. If that fails, choose it by hand: Developer options › "Select mock location app" › Medjed GPS.
  6. Open Medjed on the phone and finish "Getting ready" 開始前的準備 Allow location (required), allow notifications (recommended, so you can see the stop button), floating joystick (optional), unrestricted background use (recommended). From then on, send a location from the PC and the phone follows.

If it says you're already a developer but you can't find the option, it's under "Settings › Additional settings"; you can also use the search bar at the top of Settings and search for "Developer options". If tapping does nothing and the option still won't appear, ask us on Discord (include your phone model and system version).
Samsung (One UI 6 or later)First turn off "Settings › Security and privacy › Auto Blocker". Otherwise it blocks USB debugging and installs from a computer.
After that, just plug inThe desktop app detects your phone automatically when it's connected (if it doesn't show up, click "⚙ Tools › Detect device"). While the PC is controlling the phone, there's no need to sign in on the phone.

③Using the phone on its own (no PC)

Once Medjed GPS is installed, the phone can teleport, play routes and use the joystick by itself.

Sign in or start a trial

  1. The first time you send a location on the phone, it asks how you want to use it You can also go to Settings 設定 › My account 我的帳號.
  2. Not subscribed yet: tap Free 14-day trial 免費試用 14 天 Each phone can only use the trial once.
  3. Already subscribed: tap "Already subscribed: sign in with Email" 已經訂閱:用 Email 登入 Enter the Email you subscribed with → send the code → enter the 6-digit code from the email. It usually arrives within about a minute; check your spam folder too.
Account rulesEach account can register 1 PC + 1 iPhone + 1 Android phone. To switch phones, just sign in on the new one (you can switch once every 7 days). Starting a simulation needs an internet connection: your license must have been checked with the server within the last 30 minutes (the app checks automatically while it's open, and checks again after the phone restarts). A simulation that's already running keeps going for up to 6 hours offline. If it says the phone's time is wrong, turn on automatic date & time in your system settings.

Send a location

  1. Search for a place at the top of the map, or paste coordinates You can also drag the map so the Medjed character in the middle points at where you want to go.
  2. Tap Send here 傳送到這裡 Once the simulation starts, apps that use the phone's location see this as your location. To move somewhere else while simulating, line it up and tap "Send" 傳送. Saved places can also be sent from the Favorites 收藏 tab with "Send".

Floating joystick

Tap "Joystick" 搖桿 at the bottom of the map and a joystick appears at the bottom left. Tap Floating joystick 懸浮搖桿 above it and the joystick floats on top of other apps, so you can keep walking after switching apps. The first time, allow Medjed to "Display over other apps".

ButtonWhat it does
⠿Drag to move the joystick
🚶 5Current speed (km/h). Tap to switch: walk → run → bike → car → custom
🔓 / 🔒Lock: after you let go, keep walking in the last direction. Tap the joystick to stop
– / ✕Shrink to a small dot (tap to expand) / close the joystick
📍 定位Location: paste or type coordinates (e.g. 25.0478, 121.5170; coordinates copied from a map app work too) → "Fly there" 飛過去; or switch to "★ Favorites" ★ 收藏 and pick a place
🛣 路徑Route: pick a saved route → "📍 Fly to start" 飛到起點 or "▶ Fly there and start" 飛過去開始. You can turn on "Repeat when done" 走完重複; the speed is the one chosen on the joystick
📍 and 🛣 do nothing when tapped (most common on Xiaomi)One more permission is needed. See ⑤ Troubleshooting.

Routes

  1. Tap Route 路線 at the bottom of the map Pick a saved route, or tap "✏️ Draw new route" 畫新路線 or "📂 Import GPX" 匯入 GPX. Routes drawn in the desktop app sync over too when you click "⚙ Tools › Push to phone".
  2. Drawing: tap the map to add points, or pick a shape Tap the map, tap "+ Center point" + 中心點 to add the spot under Medjed, or pick a circle, square, figure 8, heart, back-and-forth line or spiral (turns, radius and point spacing are adjustable; it winds outward from the center). When you're done, tap "Save as route" 存成路線 and give it a name.
  3. Tap Start 開始走 You can turn on "Loop" 循環播放: a loop route goes back to the start and keeps going; other routes go back and forth along the same path. While walking you can pause, resume and stop. You can also edit a route's points, reverse its direction, or export it as GPX.

Stop the simulation

Tap Stop simulation 停止模擬 on the map, or "Stop simulation" on the notification, and the phone goes back to its real location. For 24 hours after stopping, the map shows "▶ Back to where I was" 回到剛才的位置; tap it to go back.

④Updates

Either way works, and neither erases your favorites, routes or sign-in.

Update on the phone (no PC needed)

  1. When there's a new version, Medjed shows "New version" 有新版 The app checks automatically when it opens, but not again if it already checked in the last 6 hours. To check right away: Settings › Version 版本 › "Check for updates" 檢查更新.
  2. Tap Update 更新, then Install 安裝 when the download finishes The file is fairly large, so you can tap "Download in background" 背景下載 and keep using the app; it reminds you when it's done. The first time, Android asks you to let Medjed "Install unknown apps"; allow it, come back and tap "Install" again.
If you tapped "Later" 之後再說That version won't be offered automatically again. When you want it, go to Settings › Version › Check for updates.

Update when connected to your PC

If the desktop app finds that the Medjed app on your phone is older than the one bundled with the PC, it asks "Update now?". Click OK and it installs it for you. You can also click "⚙ Tools › Install Companion APK" in the desktop app (it installs the version bundled with the desktop app, so update the desktop app to the latest version first).

⑤Troubleshooting

Grouped by situation. Open an item to see the cause and what to do. The shaded lines are messages you'll see on screen. The phone app shows its messages in Chinese, so they're given in English with the on-screen Chinese next to them.

Install & setup

Installing the desktop app, Windows shows a blue warning window

"Windows protected your PC"

Cause: The desktop installer doesn't have a code-signing certificate yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows an "unknown publisher" warning.

  1. In the blue window, click "More info".
  2. Click "Run anyway" to continue installing.

If Windows 11 "Smart App Control" is on, it may block the unsigned installer outright, with no "Run anyway" button. In that case, ask us on Discord.

I can't find Developer options / tapping the build number does nothing

Cause: What you tap differs by brand, and once enabled the option is often on a different page.

  1. Make sure you're tapping "Build number" (on Xiaomi: "OS version" or "MIUI version", not "Android version"), 7 times or more in a row. See the table in ② for each brand; choosing your brand in step 2 of the desktop setup wizard also shows the path.
  2. Once enabled, look where the right-hand column of the table in ② says, or search Settings for "Developer".
  3. Xiaomi says you're already a developer but the option is nowhere to be found: check "Settings › Additional settings" first. Still missing? Ask us on Discord (include your phone model and HyperOS / MIUI version).
Samsung: the phone app won't install, or USB debugging is blocked

"Samsung's Auto Blocker stops apps from being installed from a computer. Turn it off in Settings › Security and privacy › Auto Blocker (you can turn it back on after installing)."

Cause: On One UI 6 or later, Auto Blocker blocks USB debugging and installs from a computer. When an install fails on a Samsung phone, the desktop app asks you to check this first, unless the cause is clearly something else (low storage, Android too old, disconnected).

  1. On the phone: Settings › Security and privacy › Auto Blocker → turn it off.
  2. Go back to step 4 of the desktop setup wizard and click "Install" again.
  3. You can turn Auto Blocker back on after installing.
Xiaomi / OPPO / vivo / realme: clicking "Install" doesn't install the app

"The phone blocked installing apps from a computer. Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO: open Settings › Developer options and turn on “Install via USB” (requires a Mi account). OPPO / vivo / realme: a confirmation appears on the phone during install — tap “Install”."

Cause: These brands block installing apps from a computer (USB) by default, or ask you to confirm on the phone.

  1. Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO: Settings › Additional settings › Developer options → turn on "Install via USB" (sign in to a Mi account first).
  2. OPPO: turn on "Install via USB" in Developer options.
  3. Watch the phone while you click "Install" on the PC, and tap "Install" or "Allow" when it asks.
  4. When the PC asks "Try installing again after fixing this?", click OK.
Google Play Protect blocked the install

"Google Play Protect blocked the install. When the phone asks, choose “Install anyway”, or temporarily turn off “Scan apps with Play Protect” in Play Store › profile icon › Play Protect › Settings."

Cause: Medjed GPS isn't installed from the Play Store, so Play Protect may block it or time out while checking it.

  1. When the phone shows a prompt, choose "Install anyway".
  2. Blocked with no prompt: Play Store › your profile icon (top right) › Play Protect › Settings, and temporarily turn off "Scan apps with Play Protect".
  3. Click "Install" on the PC again. You can turn it back on afterwards.
Install failed: "The Companion app could not be installed."

Cause: The second line of the message gives the reason, and the last line shows the error. Besides the cases above, common ones are:

  • "The phone is out of storage. Please free up at least 100 MB." → Delete apps, photos or videos you don't need to free up 100 MB or more.
  • "This phone's Android version is too old (Android 8 or later is required)." → Check the version under Settings › About phone. Android 7 or earlier can't be used; please use a phone with Android 8 or later.
  • "The phone disconnected. Plug the USB cable back in and tap Allow when the phone asks to allow USB debugging." → Unlock the phone, reconnect the cable and tap "Allow" when asked.
  • "Make sure the phone is still connected to this PC and its screen is unlocked." → Unlock the phone, keep the screen on, and check the cable isn't loose.
  1. Once it's fixed, click OK when the PC asks "Try installing again after fixing this?".
  2. Still failing: take a screenshot of the whole message (including the "Error:" line) and send it to us on Discord.
Step 5 of the setup wizard ("Set up") fails

"Couldn’t set it. Go to Developer options › Select mock location app and choose Medjed"

Cause: The phone didn't accept the setting from the PC, so you need to pick it once on the phone.

  1. On the phone: Settings › Developer options › "Select mock location app".
  2. Choose "Medjed GPS".
  3. Back in the desktop setup wizard (it re-checks every 2–3 seconds), step 5 ticks itself off.
The desktop app says adb or the Companion APK was not found

"adb (the Android connection tool) was not found. Please reinstall Medjed." / "The phone app installer (Companion APK) was not found. Please reinstall Medjed."

Cause: Files that come with the desktop app are missing (incomplete install).

  1. Download the desktop installer again from the website and install it over the current one (your favorites and routes are kept).
  2. Restart Medjed and open "⚙ Tools › Android setup" again.
  3. Same message again: ask us on Discord.
"Getting ready" on the phone isn't finished, so the location won't change

"If steps 1 and 3 aren't done, your location can't be changed. You can come back later under Settings › Getting ready." 第 1、3 步沒完成的話,定位改不了。之後可以在「設定 › 開始前的準備」回來。

Cause: Step 1 (allow location) and step 3 (set Medjed as the mock location app) are required.

  1. Open Medjed GPS on the phone → Settings 設定 › Getting ready 開始前的準備.
  2. Step 1, "Allow location" 允許定位: tap "Allow" 允許.
  3. Step 3: tap "Go" 前往 → "Select mock location app" → Medjed GPS.
  4. We also recommend step 4 (allow notifications) and step 6 (unrestricted background use).

PC connection

The desktop app doesn't detect my phone

"No phone detected yet: use a USB cable that supports data (some cables only charge)" / "No Android phone found. Connect it with a USB cable and allow USB debugging on the phone."

Cause: A charge-only cable, the USB mode set to "charging only", USB debugging turned off, or a bad USB port.

  1. Use a USB cable you know supports data.
  2. In the phone's notification shade, set the USB mode to "File transfer".
  3. Try another USB port (on a desktop PC, preferably one on the back).
  4. Open "⚙ Tools › Android setup" and see which step it's stuck on.
  5. Unplug, plug back in, and click "⚙ Tools › Detect device".
The setup wizard says "Waiting for permission on the phone"

"Look at your phone: “Allow USB debugging?” → tick “Always allow” → tap “Allow”. Don’t see it? Unplug and replug"

Cause: The phone hasn't allowed this PC to use USB debugging yet.

  1. Unlock the phone. When "Allow USB debugging?" appears, tick "Always allow from this computer" → tap "Allow".
  2. Nothing appears: unplug and plug back in, or set the USB mode to "File transfer".
  3. Still nothing: in Developer options, tap "Revoke USB debugging authorizations", then reconnect. The phone asks again.
The setup wizard says "Connection stuck"

"The connection is stuck: if your phone shows “Allow USB debugging?”, tap Allow; otherwise unplug the USB cable and plug it back in."

Cause: The PC can see the phone but the connection is stuck, usually because the permission prompt hasn't been answered or the cable is loose.

  1. If the phone shows the "Allow USB debugging?" prompt, tap "Allow".
  2. If not, unplug the USB cable and plug it back in.
  3. Still stuck: try another cable or USB port.
The PC detects my phone, then loses it again

"Another program (…) is using adb port 5037 and fighting Medjed for the phone connection. Close it (common culprits: phone manager apps, other emulators, Android Studio), then reconnect the phone."

Cause: Phone manager apps, other emulators or Android Studio on the PC fight Medjed for the phone connection. When the setup wizard detects this, it shows the message above (with the program's name in brackets).

  1. Close phone manager apps, other emulators and Android Studio (including ones running in the system tray).
  2. Unplug the phone and plug it back in. Also try another USB cable or port.
  3. If the wizard says "Medjed's adb service couldn't start": restart the PC and try again. Still failing? Ask us on Discord.
Two or more devices (phones or emulators) are connected

"Device to set up:"

  1. At the top of the setup wizard, pick the device you want under "Device to set up:" (only phones connected by USB are listed there).
  2. Emulators don't appear in the setup wizard: click the emulator's name in the device list at the top, then click "⚙ Tools › Install Companion APK" (see MuMu emulator).
  3. When sending a location, tick the devices to send to in the device list at the top.
  4. "⚙ Tools › Push to phone" pushes to every connected Android device that has allowed this PC.
"Push to phone" fails

"No Android device to push to. Connect it with a USB cable and make sure it's detected." / "(phone name): could not connect (adb forward failed)" / "(phone name): the phone returned an error (…)"

Cause: Pushing only works with phones connected by USB and the MuMu emulator. It fails if the phone isn't detected, the screen is locked, Medjed isn't running on the phone, or the desktop app and phone app versions don't match.

  1. Check that the phone shows up in the device list at the top and the setup wizard says "Ready".
  2. Unlock the phone and open Medjed GPS, leaving it on screen (the PC also tries to open it, but may not be able to while the phone is locked).
  3. Unplug and replug the USB cable, then click "⚙ Tools › Push to phone" again.
  4. Still failing: update the desktop app to the latest version, and update the phone app to the version bundled with the PC (see ④).
Sending from the PC, the status bar says it couldn't reach the phone

"Could not reach the phone (adb failed)" / "Medjed on the phone isn't ready: make sure it's installed and selected in Developer options › Select mock location app."

Cause: The USB connection dropped, or Medjed GPS isn't installed on the phone or isn't set as the mock location app.

  1. Couldn't reach: unlock the phone, reconnect the cable, click "⚙ Tools › Detect device", then send again.
  2. Not ready: open "⚙ Tools › Android setup" and finish step 4 (install) and step 5 (set up).
  3. You can also click "⚙ Tools › Check Companion" to see whether it's installed and set as the mock location app.

Location not changing / jumping back

The map shows "Location wasn't changed"

"Location wasn't changed" 定位沒有改到 "Go to Developer options › Select mock location app and choose Medjed" 請到「開發人員選項 › 選取模擬位置應用程式」選 Medjed

Cause: Medjed isn't the system's mock location app yet, so the system rejects the location it writes.

  1. Tap the notice. It takes you to Developer options.
  2. "Select mock location app" → choose Medjed GPS.
  3. Go back to Medjed and tap "Send" 傳送 again.
  4. With a PC, step 5 ("Set up") of the setup wizard also works.
I tapped Send, but other apps still see the old location

Cause: The phone's location is off, an older phone's location mode isn't "High accuracy", the app reading your location hasn't fetched it again, or (when using a PC) "Allow PC control" is turned off on the phone.

  1. The phone's location must be on. If an older phone has a "Location mode" setting, choose "High accuracy".
  2. Make sure Medjed GPS is the mock location app (see the item above).
  3. Fully close the app that's reading your location and open it again.
  4. When using a PC: on the phone, check that "Allow PC control" 允許電腦控制 is on under Medjed Settings › PC connection 電腦連線. If it says "Waiting for connection" 等待連線 or "No commands from the PC yet" 還沒收到電腦的指令, click "⚙ Tools › Detect device" in the desktop app.
After a while the location jumps back, or the floating joystick disappears (the system closed the app)

"So the system doesn't stop the simulation and the floating joystick after you swipe the app away" 滑掉 App 後模擬和懸浮搖桿才不會被系統關掉 "Xiaomi / OPPO / vivo also need Autostart turned on in App info" 小米/OPPO/vivo 另外要在 App 資訊裡開「自啟動」

Cause: The system's battery saving or cleanup features closed Medjed in the background.

  1. Medjed Settings › Getting ready, step 6 "Unrestricted background use" 背景執行不受限制: tap "Set" 設定 → allow (set battery optimization to "Unrestricted").
  2. Xiaomi / OPPO / vivo: turn on "Autostart" for Medjed GPS in the system's app info.
  3. Don't let your phone's cleaner or booster features close Medjed.
The location keeps getting taken over and jumps around (another mock location app is on the phone)

Cause: Another mock location app is also writing a location, and the two keep overwriting each other.

  1. Developer options › "Select mock location app" → Medjed GPS.
  2. Close (or uninstall) the other location apps.
  3. With a PC: step 5 ("Set up") of the setup wizard also turns off mock location access for other apps.
After reinstalling the phone app, the phone doesn't move when I send a location

"But the mock location app could not be set automatically: on the phone, go to Settings › Developer options › Select mock location app and choose Medjed, otherwise the phone will not move when you send a location."

Cause: Uninstalling and reinstalling clears the "Select mock location app" setting. The desktop app tries to restore it when it reinstalls the app, and shows this message if it can't.

  1. On the phone: Settings › Developer options › Select mock location app → Medjed GPS.
  2. Open Medjed and check under Settings › Getting ready that location and notifications are allowed.
Old phone app: still at the simulated location after stopping, or crashes a few seconds after Send

Cause: Older versions of the phone app had two known problems, both fixed as of 1.0.4: after the app was swiped away from recent apps, a "Stop" sent from the PC didn't reach it on Android 12 or later; and starting a simulation without location permission crashed the app a few seconds later.

  1. Won't stop: open Medjed on the phone and tap "Stop simulation" 停止模擬 again.
  2. Crashes: first allow "Location" under system Settings › Apps › Medjed GPS › Permissions.
  3. Connect to your PC and update the phone app to the latest version (see ④).

Phone on its own

Tapping "Floating joystick" opens a system settings page instead

"Please allow Medjed to “Display over other apps”" 請允許 Medjed「顯示在其他應用程式上層」

Cause: The floating joystick needs the "Display over other apps" permission.

  1. On the settings page, find Medjed GPS → turn on "Display over other apps".
  2. Go back to Medjed and tap "Floating joystick" 懸浮搖桿 again.
  3. You can also get there from Settings › Getting ready, step 5 → "Allow".
Pushing the floating joystick doesn't move me

"Tap “Send” in Medjed to start a simulation first, then walk with the floating joystick" 先在 Medjed 裡按「傳送」開始模擬,再用懸浮搖桿走 / "License needs checking: please open Medjed" 授權需要確認:請打開 Medjed

Cause: The joystick walks from the current simulated location, so it does nothing once the simulation has stopped. Using the phone on its own also needs a valid trial or subscription.

  1. Open Medjed, line up a spot on the map and tap "Send here" 傳送到這裡.
  2. Then switch to another app and use the floating joystick.
  3. "License needs checking": open Medjed so it can go online and check once (see Sign-in & subscription).
📍 and 🛣 on the floating joystick do nothing (Xiaomi and other phones)

"Xiaomi phones: turn on Medjed's “Display pop-up windows while running in the background” so 📍 and 🛣 on the floating joystick can open" 小米手機請開啟 Medjed 的「在背景執行時顯示彈出視窗」,懸浮搖桿的 📍 定位、🛣 路徑才打得開 / "The small window didn't open: allow Medjed to “Display pop-up windows while running in the background” in system settings" 小視窗沒有跳出來:請到系統設定允許 Medjed「在背景執行時顯示彈出視窗」

Cause: The phone stopped the app from opening a small window from the background, and the system itself gives no notice. This is most common on Xiaomi (MIUI, HyperOS), but other brands may block it too. When Medjed notices the small window didn't open, it shows one of the messages above.

  1. Xiaomi: in Medjed, under Settings › Floating joystick size, tap "Xiaomi: turn on background pop-ups" 小米手機:開啟「背景彈出視窗」, then under "Other permissions" in the app's permissions, turn on "Display pop-up windows while running in the background".
  2. Other brands: in system Settings › Apps › Medjed GPS, look in its permissions for an item like "Display pop-up windows while running in the background" and turn it on (the name and location vary by brand).
  3. Go back to the floating joystick and tap 📍 or 🛣 again.
The joystick's small window says to sign in or go online

"No trial or sign-in yet: open My account in Medjed" 還沒開始試用或登入:請打開 Medjed 的「我的帳號」 / "Go online to check your license, then try again" 要連上網路確認授權,請連網後再試一次 / "…, please open Medjed to see why" …,請打開 Medjed 查看

Cause: Using the phone on its own needs a valid trial or subscription, checked online within the 30 minutes before starting. If the license has stopped working, the "…" part gives the reason.

  1. Open Medjed → Settings › My account 我的帳號.
  2. Not signed in: tap "Free 14-day trial" 免費試用 14 天 or "Already subscribed: sign in with Email" 已經訂閱:用 Email 登入.
  3. Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data and try again.
  4. A reason is shown (for example, the trial has ended): see Sign-in & subscription.
Pasting coordinates into the joystick's 📍 window says it can't read them

"Can't read these coordinates" 看不懂這個座標

Cause: The pasted text has no coordinate numbers in it, e.g. a short share link from a map app, or an address.

  1. Use the "latitude, longitude" format, e.g. 25.0478, 121.5170.
  2. In a map app, long-press the place and copy the coordinate numbers it shows, then paste them.
  3. For an address or place name, search at the top of the Medjed map instead.
The locate button at the bottom right of the map can't find my location

"Can't get the phone's location. Make sure location is on" 抓不到手機定位,請確認定位已開啟

Cause: The phone's location is off, or Medjed isn't allowed to use location.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and turn on location.
  2. Settings › Getting ready, step 1 "Allow location".
  3. Go outdoors or near a window and tap it again.
Importing a GPX file fails

"This isn't a valid GPX file" 這不是有效的 GPX 檔 / "No route found in the file (at least 2 points needed)" 檔案裡找不到路線(至少要 2 個點) / "File too large (50 MB max); shrink or split it with another tool first" 檔案太大(上限 50 MB),請先用其他工具縮小或分段 / "No file picker found: tap the GPX file in your file manager and choose “Open with Medjed”" 找不到檔案選擇器:可以在檔案管理員點 GPX 檔,選「用 Medjed 開啟」

Cause: The file isn't a valid GPX, has too few points, is over 50 MB, or the phone has no file picker.

  1. Make sure it's a .gpx file with at least 2 points; export it again and retry.
  2. Too large: shrink or split it with another tool first.
  3. No file picker: open your phone's file manager, tap the GPX file → "Open with Medjed".
The Medjed notification: can't see it, it shows coordinates, what the lock screen shows

"Medjed simulating" Medjed 模擬中

This notification, titled "Medjed simulating", appears while simulating. While a route is playing it says "Route playing …%" 路線播放中 …% ("Route paused …%" 路線暫停 …% when paused); when nothing is being simulated it says "Standing by · tap to open Medjed" 待命中 · 點這裡打開 Medjed. You can tap "Stop simulation" 停止模擬 right on it, plus "Pause / Resume" 暫停/繼續 while a route is playing; "Floating joystick / Hide joystick" 懸浮搖桿/收起搖桿 shows or hides the joystick. It doesn't make a sound or vibrate.

Whether the notification shows coordinates depends on the phone app's version (see Medjed Settings › Version 版本):

  • 1.0.4 and earlier: while simulating (and not playing a route), the notification text is your current coordinates (e.g. "25.047800, 121.517000"), and they can be seen on the lock screen too. To keep them off the lock screen, set your lock screen to not show notifications in the phone's system settings (where this is varies by brand).
  • Newer versions after 1.0.4: the notification no longer shows coordinates; the text becomes "Location simulation running · tap to open Medjed" 模擬定位進行中 · 點這裡打開 Medjed, and you only see coordinates inside the Medjed app. If your phone is set to hide sensitive notification content on the lock screen, the lock screen only shows "Medjed simulating" Medjed 模擬中 and "Location simulation running" 模擬定位進行中, and "Stop simulation" (plus "Pause / Resume" while a route is playing) still works there. The "Floating joystick" button only appears after you unlock. Once the new version is out, update as described in ④.

Can't see the notification:

  1. Android 13 or later: Medjed Settings › Getting ready, step 4 "Allow notifications" → "Allow", or system Settings › Apps › Medjed GPS › Notifications → on.
  2. When nothing is being simulated and the floating joystick is off, swiping the app away from your recent apps also removes the notification. That's normal.
  3. Without the notification, you can still tap "Stop simulation" on the Medjed map.

Sign-in & subscription

The Email sign-in code doesn't arrive

"If … has an active subscription, the code has been sent (it arrives within about a minute; check your spam folder too). Still nothing? It may not be the Email you purchased with" 如果 … 有有效的訂閱,驗證碼已經寄出(約 1 分鐘內到,也看一下垃圾郵件)。一直沒收到:可能不是購買時用的 Email

Cause: Codes are only sent to Emails with an active subscription. The email may be in your spam folder, or the address isn't the one you paid with.

  1. Wait a minute and check your spam and promotions folders.
  2. Make sure you entered the Email you used to pay.
  3. Tap "Resend" 重新寄送 (once every 60 seconds per Email).
  4. "The email service is having trouble (not your network)" 寄信服務暫時異常(不是你的網路),請稍後再試: try again a bit later.
  5. If you have a license key: it may not be linked to an Email yet. Ask on Discord to link one.
Too many attempts when sending the code or signing in

"Already sent just now; resend in … seconds" 剛剛已經寄過了,請 … 秒後再重新寄送 / "Too many sends; try again in … minutes" 寄送次數太多了,請 … 分鐘後再試 / "Too many attempts; try again in 10 minutes" 嘗試太多次了,請 10 分鐘後再試

Cause: Each Email can get one code every 60 seconds, with an hourly limit too; code entry attempts are also limited.

  1. Wait the number of seconds or minutes shown.
  2. Meanwhile, check your spam folder; the previous email may already be there.
Sign-in fails after entering the code

"Wrong code" 驗證碼錯誤 / "The code has expired; please resend" 驗證碼已過期,請重新寄送 / "Enter the 6-digit code" 請輸入 6 位數驗證碼

Cause: A typo, a code from an older email, or the code has expired.

  1. Use the 6-digit code from the most recent email.
  2. Expired: tap "Resend" and enter the new code soon after it arrives.
Sign-in says there's no subscription, or it has ended

"This Email has no active subscription" 這個 Email 沒有有效的訂閱 / "Your subscription has ended; renew it, then sign in" 訂閱已到期,請續訂後再登入

Cause: No active subscription was found for this Email: it isn't the Email you paid with, or the subscription has ended.

  1. Try again with the Email you entered when paying.
  2. Subscription ended: subscribe again, then sign in with the same Email after paying.
  3. You're sure you paid but it isn't found: ask us on Discord (include the Email you paid with).
It says the phone's or PC's time is wrong

"The phone's time is wrong; turn on automatic date & time in system settings and try again" 手機時間不正確,請到系統設定開啟「自動設定時間」後再試 / "The phone's clock is off, so the server couldn't confirm the license. Set the phone's date and time to automatic, then push again." / "This PC's clock is off, so the server couldn't confirm the license. Set this PC's date and time to automatic, then push again."

Cause: The phone's or PC's clock is too far off (more than 5 minutes), so the server can't confirm the license.

  1. Phone: system Settings › Date & time (the location varies by brand; search for "date") → turn on automatic time and time zone.
  2. PC: Windows Settings › Time & language › Date & time → turn on "Set time automatically".
  3. Sign in again in Medjed, or click "Push to phone" on the PC again.
Tapping Send on the phone shows "Internet connection needed" or "Server problem"

"An internet connection is needed once to check your license before a simulation can start (a simulation that's already running keeps going for up to 6 hours offline)." 要連網確認一次授權才能開始模擬(已經在模擬中的,斷線 6 小時內不受影響)。 / "It's not your network: the server can't confirm licenses right now. It retries automatically, or tap “Retry” later. Simulations already running aren't affected." 不是你的網路:伺服器暫時沒辦法確認授權,會自動重試,也可以稍後按「重試」。已經在模擬中的不受影響。

Cause: When using the phone on its own, the license must have been checked with the server within the 30 minutes before a simulation starts (the app checks automatically while it's open, and checks again after the phone restarts).

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data and tap "Retry" 重試.
  2. Server problem: no need to change anything; wait a bit and tap "Retry".
A simulation started on the phone suddenly stopped (license no longer valid)

"License no longer valid; simulation stopped" 授權失效,已停止模擬 "…. Location simulation stopped; the phone is back at its real location." …。模擬定位已停止,手機回到真實位置。

Cause: The notification and the app give the reason: the trial has ended, the subscription has ended, the subscription is paused, this phone was removed from the account (or the trial moved elsewhere), the sign-in is no longer valid, the phone's time is wrong, or the license hasn't been checked with the server for more than 6 hours. Simulations controlled by a connected PC aren't affected.

  1. Tap the notification to open Medjed and read the reason on screen or under Settings › My account.
  2. Offline for more than 6 hours: go online, then tap "Send" again.
  3. Wrong time: turn on automatic date & time (see above).
  4. Sign-in no longer valid: sign in again under Settings › My account (see the last item in this group).
  5. Ended: tap "Renew" 續訂, pay, then come back and tap "Renewed, sign in again" 已續訂,重新登入. Paused: tap "Resume subscription" 恢復訂閱, then come back and tap "Resumed, sign in again" 已恢復,重新登入. Trial ended: subscribe, then sign in with your Email.
The phone's "Free 14-day trial" won't start

"This phone's trial has been used up; subscribe and sign in with your Email" 這支手機的試用已經用完了,可以訂閱後用 Email 登入 / "Too many trials were started from this network today; please try again tomorrow" 這個網路今天開始的試用太多了,請明天再試

Cause: Each phone can use the trial only once (deleting and reinstalling the app doesn't reset it), and each network can only start a limited number of trials per day.

  1. Trial used up: subscribe, then tap "Already subscribed: sign in with Email" under My account.
  2. Your PC is still in its trial: connect and click "Push to phone"; the PC can start the trial on the phone for you (see the next item).
  3. Too many trials on this network: try again tomorrow, or switch networks (e.g. use mobile data).
After pushing to the phone, it says the phone can't be used on its own, or the phone trial couldn't start

Cause: A PC's trial can only be used by one phone at a time, and if the PC has a subscription, the phone needs to sign in with Email itself. After pushing, the desktop app says whether the phone can be used on its own:

  • "This PC's trial is in use on another phone (…). You can switch it to this phone after that phone has been unused for 24 hours." → Push again once that phone has been unused for 24 hours.
  • "The trial on this PC has ended, so the phone can't be used on its own." → Subscribe, then sign in with Email on the phone.
  • "Could not start the trial on the phone: too many trials were started from this network today; please try again tomorrow" → Push again tomorrow.
  • "This PC needs to reach the license server first before it can set up the phone. …" → Check the PC's internet connection, then push again.
  • "This PC's license can't be used right now (see the notice at the top of the PC's window), so the phone couldn't be set up." → Follow the notice at the top of the desktop app.
  • "To use the phone on its own (without this PC), sign in to the phone app with the email you used to purchase." → On the phone, sign in under Settings › My account with the Email you paid with.
  • "The phone can be used on its own (until …) once it goes online to confirm." → Let the phone go online and open Medjed once.
  • "The phone kept its own account or trial …" → That's normal; nothing to do.
Sending from the desktop app says it has expired

"🚫 Expired — coordinates cannot be sent. …"

Cause: When the PC controls the phone, the desktop app's license is what counts, and its trial or subscription can no longer be used.

  1. Click "Subscribe" at the top of the desktop app, then sign in with the Email you paid with.
  2. Already subscribed: sign in to the desktop app with the Email you paid with, or enter your license key.
  3. Subscription paused or payment not completed: follow the notice at the top of the desktop app.
When using a PC, the phone app says "Sign-in needed"

"No sign-in needed while connected to a PC and controlled by it." 接上電腦、由電腦控制時不用登入。

Cause: The phone's sign-in and trial only cover simulations started on the phone itself. When the PC is in control, the PC's license is what counts.

  1. When using a PC, ignore the sign-in status on the phone and send from the PC.
  2. Only if the PC says it has expired does the PC side need renewing (see the item above).
The phone says the sign-in is no longer valid

"Sign-in is no longer valid; please sign in again" 登入已失效,請重新登入 / "Sign-in is no longer valid; sign in again to use the phone on its own" 登入已失效,手機單獨使用要重新登入

Cause: The server no longer recognizes this phone's sign-in, so the phone goes back to "not signed in".

  1. Go to Settings › My account 我的帳號.
  2. If you signed in with Email: tap "Already subscribed: sign in with Email" 已經訂閱:用 Email 登入 and sign in with the same Email using a new code.
  3. If you were on the phone trial: tap "Free 14-day trial" 免費試用 14 天. It picks up your existing trial (the end date doesn't change).

New phone / new PC / backups

Signing in on a new phone asks "Switch to this phone?"

"This account already has another device registered: …" 這個帳號已經登記了另一支裝置:… "After switching, the old phone can't be used on its own. You can switch once every 7 days." 換過來後,舊手機就不能單獨使用。7 天內只能換一次。

Cause: Each account can register 1 PC + 1 iPhone + 1 Android phone, and the Android spot is still taken by another phone.

  1. To switch: tap "Switch to this one" 換成這支. The old phone will then say it was removed from the account; that's normal.
  2. Not switching: tap Cancel and keep using the old phone.
  3. If you still have the old phone, you can free up the Android spot first under Settings › My account → "Sign out this phone" 登出這支手機.
Switching phones says you can only switch once every 7 days

"You can only switch phones once every 7 days; you can switch to this one after …" 7 天內只能換一次手機,… 之後才能換到這支。

Cause: One account can switch Android phones only once every 7 days.

  1. Sign in again after the date shown.
  2. Until then, keep using the old phone, or connect the new phone to your PC and control it from there (no sign-in needed).
After switching phones or reinstalling the app, are my favorites and routes still there?

How automatic backup works: On Android 10 or later, with Settings › Data backup › "Daily automatic backup" 每天自動備份 on (it's on by default), Medjed backs up automatically when you open the app (and checks again every hour while the app is open): on the first open of the day, or when your favorites or routes have changed, it saves a copy to the "Download/Medjed" folder on your phone. Only one is kept per day (the newer one replaces the older). Nothing is backed up while you have no favorites or routes. Only the 7 most recent automatic backups are kept, and days you don't open the app don't produce a backup. Settings › Data backup › "Last automatic backup" 上次自動備份 shows when the last one was made.

Uninstalling the app doesn't delete the "Download/Medjed" folder. Backups don't include your sign-in.

  1. After reinstalling: open Medjed → Settings › Data backup 資料備份 → "Import backup" 匯入備份 → choose the newest file in "Download/Medjed". Importing merges, so newer data on the phone isn't overwritten.
  2. New phone: copy the files from "Download/Medjed" on the old phone to the new one, then use "Import backup". You can also tap "Export backup" 匯出備份 to save a copy yourself, and backups from the desktop app can be imported too.
  3. If you use a PC, clicking "⚙ Tools › Push to phone" in the desktop app also syncs your favorites and routes.
  4. Android 9 or earlier doesn't back up automatically; tap "Export backup" to save one yourself.
  5. Sign in with your Email again on the new phone (you can switch phones once every 7 days). The phone trial is once per phone.
Importing a backup fails

"This isn't a Medjed backup file" 這不是 Medjed 的備份檔 / "Can't open this file" 打不開這個檔案 / "No file picker found" 找不到檔案選擇器

Cause: The file you picked isn't a Medjed backup, or the phone has no file picker.

  1. Pick a backup file from the "Download/Medjed" folder, or one exported from the desktop app.
  2. Don't pick screenshots, GPX files or edited files.
  3. No file picker: if you have a PC, sync with "⚙ Tools › Push to phone"; otherwise ask us on Discord.
After reinstalling the app or clearing its data, I have to sign in again

Cause: Your sign-in isn't in the backup. After reinstalling or clearing data, the phone gets a new device identity, and the server may treat it as a different phone.

  1. Sign in again with the same Email. If "Switch to this phone?" appears, tap "Switch to this one".
  2. Blocked by the once-every-7-days limit: ask us on Discord.
  3. For normal updates, install over the existing app (favorites and sign-in are kept) instead of uninstalling first.
After switching to a new PC

"This license is bound to another PC (…). Unbind it on that PC with "Switch PC", or contact support on Discord." / "You can switch PCs once every 7 days. Please try again in … hours."

Cause: The desktop license is still bound to the old PC, and the phone hasn't allowed the new PC for USB debugging yet.

  1. On the old PC, click "Switch PC (unbind this machine)" → "Confirm unbind" in the desktop app.
  2. On the new PC, sign in with the same Email (or enter the same license key). If the old PC won't start any more, ask us on Discord.
  3. Connect the phone to the new PC. When "Allow USB debugging?" appears, tick "Always allow from this computer" → Allow.
  4. No need to reinstall the phone app; if the version bundled with the PC is newer, the desktop app asks whether to update it.

Updates

Tapping "Install" for a new version opens a settings page or nothing installs

"Please allow Medjed to “Install unknown apps”, then come back and tap “Install” again." 請允許 Medjed「安裝不明的應用程式」,回來再按一次「安裝」。

Cause: The first time you update from inside the app, Medjed needs permission to install apps.

  1. On the "Install unknown apps" settings page that opens, turn on "Allow from this source" for Medjed.
  2. Go back to Medjed and tap "Install" 安裝 again in the update window.
  3. On the system's install screen, tap "Update" or "Install".
Checking for updates or downloading the new version fails

"Can't connect; check your network and try again." 無法連線,請確認網路後再試一次。 / "Download interrupted; please try again" 下載中斷,請再試一次 / "Download failed (…)" 下載失敗(…) / "Version … is out, but the download isn't ready yet; please try again later." 有新版 …,但下載檔還沒準備好,請稍後再試。

Cause: An unstable network, an interrupted download, or a just-released version whose download isn't up yet.

  1. Switch to a stable Wi-Fi network and tap "Download again" 重新下載.
  2. The file is fairly large; tap "Download in background" 背景下載 to keep using the app, and it reminds you when it's done.
  3. "The download isn't ready yet": check again later under Settings › Version › "Check for updates".
  4. Keeps failing: first update the desktop app to the latest version, then connect to your PC and update with "⚙ Tools › Install Companion APK" in the desktop app (it installs the version bundled with the desktop app).
An old phone app won't update on the phone, and the PC says it must be removed and reinstalled

"The Medjed Companion on this phone was signed with an old key and must be removed and reinstalled."

Cause: The phone app now uses a new signing key. Android doesn't let an app with a new key install over the old one, so installing the new version directly on the phone fails too.

  1. Connect to your PC and use step 4 of the "Android Setup Wizard" or "⚙ Tools › Install Companion APK".
  2. Click OK when this confirmation appears: the PC first backs up the favorites and routes on the phone to the PC (and saves a backup file), then removes and reinstalls the app, and restores the mock location setting automatically.
  3. If they aren't pushed back automatically afterwards, click "⚙ Tools › Push to phone".
Reinstalling says the favorites on the phone can't be backed up first

"Could not back up the favorites on the phone first (the Companion app on the phone did not respond)." / "Could not reach the Companion app on the phone (adb forward failed), so the favorites on the phone could not be backed up first." "Open Medjed Companion on the phone and press “Install Companion” again. Remove and reinstall anyway? Favorites not yet synced to this PC will be lost."

Cause: The old app on the phone isn't running or isn't responding, so the PC can't get the favorites.

  1. Click "Cancel" first.
  2. Unlock the phone and open the old Medjed app, leaving it on screen.
  3. Click "⚙ Tools › Install Companion APK" on the PC again.
  4. Only click OK in this window (remove and reinstall without a backup) if you're sure there are no favorites that exist only on the phone.
Reinstalling failed halfway and Medjed is gone from the phone

"The old Medjed app was removed from the phone, but the new version could not be installed."

Cause: The old version was removed, but installing the new one was blocked (the reason is in the same message).

  1. Follow the middle line of the message (for example, turn on Install via USB or turn off Auto Blocker; see Install & setup).
  2. If it says "The old version on the phone could not be removed automatically": long-press the Medjed icon on the phone › Uninstall.
  3. Click OK when the PC asks "Try installing again after fixing this?". Once installed, it restores the mock location setting and pushes your favorites back to the phone.

MuMu emulator

The emulator isn't detected

Cause: Only the MuMu emulator is supported. It also won't be detected if it hasn't finished starting up, or another program has taken the connection.

  1. Use the MuMu emulator (Android 12 or later recommended).
  2. Wait until it has fully started to the home screen; Medjed finds it automatically. If it doesn't appear, click "⚙ Tools › Detect device".
  3. Still not found: close the emulator completely, start it again, and click "Detect device" again.
  4. Close other emulators and phone manager apps (they take the connection).
How do I turn on Developer options and set the mock location app in the emulator?

Note: The emulator doesn't need USB or USB debugging, but you still need to install the phone app and set it as the mock location app.

  1. In the emulator: Settings › About phone, scroll to the bottom and tap "Build number" 7 times.
  2. In the device list at the top of the desktop app, click the emulator's name (to make it the focused device), then click "⚙ Tools › Install Companion APK" to install the phone app. The setup wizard only supports phones connected by USB: it doesn't list emulators, and its step 5 ("Set up") can't be used for them.
  3. In the emulator: Settings › System › Developer options › "Select mock location app" → Medjed GPS.

Other

A favorite I deleted on the phone also disappeared on the PC after pushing (or the other way round)

"Once deleted, this place will also be deleted on the PC the next time you push to it." 刪除後,下次推送到電腦時電腦上的這個地點也會一起刪掉。

Cause: The PC and the phone sync both ways by merging, and deletions sync too. This is normal.

  1. If you deleted something by mistake, importing an old backup won't bring it back (importing merges, and deleted items don't reappear). Search for it or paste its coordinates and save it again.
Do I need root?

No. Medjed uses Android's built-in "mock location" feature.

Still stuck?Ask us on Discord and include: phone brand and model / Android version / desktop app version / screenshots (if there's a message, capture all of it). The Android version is under Settings › About phone on the phone. For the desktop app version, click "Settings" at the top of the desktop app › "🔄 Check for updates". The phone app's version is under Medjed Settings › Version 版本.
